The Belize Football Federation has made a strategic turn by appointing the experienced Mexican coach Enrique Meza as a key advisor to the Belize National Team. This decision comes at a crucial time for the team, which is in the middle of the World Cup qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup and must face two pending matches in the group stage.
The project will be supported by a Mexican team led by Diego Bartolotta, who presented a working methodology that convinced the Belizean federation. The coaching staff will be led by Daniel Bartolotta and Enrique Meza Jr., while the local technical director, Carlos Slusher, will continue to provide his experience to the team.
The president of the Belize Football Federation, Sergio Chuc, explained that this bet on Mexican talent is framed as a short-term solution with an eye toward the future. The immediate goal is not to advance in the qualifiers but to provide dignified performances in the upcoming matches against Montserrat and Panama.
Chuc noted: "Then, if it works, we would consider it long-term, aiming for the 2030 World Cup process." He also acknowledged the difficult start of the year for the Belizean team, which faced rivals like Costa Rica, but expressed confidence in the Mexican group that will provide its advice.
The initial agreement between the Belizean federation and the Mexican team will last for one month, after which the results and working conditions will be evaluated to decide the continuation of the project. The experience and professionalism of Enrique Meza, regarded as a prominent figure in technical direction in Mexico, offers hope to Belize for changing its destiny in the World Cup qualifiers.
In Chuc's words, "We are taking on this challenge and will work together."
